Rattlesnake Festival photography contest

As the time winds down to 41st Annual Rattlesnake Festival, Rattlesnake and Gopher Enthusiasts, Inc. members are working to present another successful event.

One new addition to this year’s festivities will be the Rattlesnake Festival Photography Contest.

“The idea is to get people to capture aspects of the festival that we may miss,” said Gary Hatrick, official photographer for R.A.G.E. and contest coordinator. “No one – not even I – can be everywhere at once.”

First, second and third place awards will be given in five categories - Black and White, Humor, Animals, Entertainment and Professional.

“Those who use photography in their profession such as media professionals and portrait photographers must enter the professional category,” Hatrick said.

Eligible photos must be taken at the Rattlesnake Festival and its components on the two festival days of October 20 and 21.

No camera? No problem. Disposable cameras will be on sale on the festival grounds. Processing and printing of the disposables is the responsibility of the purchasers.

Don’t worry about whether or not you are usually good at taking photos,” Hatrick encouraged potential entrants, “any honest photographer can tell you that much of what goes into a good photo is being in the right place at the right time.”

The cost of entering the contest is $5 per photo per category. One photographer may enter as many photos as desired or may enter the same photo into multiple categories.

“Just as long as a five-spot comes with each photo - enter away,” Hatrick said.

Winning photos will become the property of R.A.G.E. and will be placed on display at the 2008 Rattlesnake Festival, and possibly used for publication and at Rattlesnake Festival booths through out the year.

A complete list of rules and applications can be found at the festival Web site at rattlesnakefestival.com or at San Antonio, Fla. City Hall.
